I can’t answer your questions because I still have lots to learn about Buddhism. I just read and try to understand the scriptures by listening to how everyone interprets it.

Perhaps if you can you answer me these questions:

Why is masturbation against the precepts?

Why is having sex at the wrong time and place against the precepts? What is wrong time and wrong place?

Why is premarital sex against the percepts? Does Buddhism endorse marriage like the catholics and christian as holy?

非时——制戒律所规定的不应行淫的日期及时间；

非处——指戒律所规定的不应行淫的处所及「三道」；

非女——指同性恋、人畜之间行淫；

处女——未婚女；

他妇——有夫之妇；

自身——自身行淫，如手淫；

这些情况下行淫的，均为邪淫。

But in the scriptures, it says that
优婆塞戒经－业品第二十四

佛经原文：

……

若于非时非处非女处女他妇。若属自身是名邪淫。唯三天下有邪淫罪。郁单曰无。若畜生若破坏。若属僧若系狱。若亡逃若师妇。若出家人近如是人。名为邪淫。出家之人无所系属。从谁得罪。从其亲属王所得罪。恶时乱时虐王出时。怖畏之时。若令妇妾出家剃发。还近之者是得淫罪。若到三道是得淫罪。若自若他。在于道边塔边祠边大会之处。作非梵行得邪淫罪。若为父母兄弟国王之所守护。或先与他期。或先许他。或先受财。或先受请。木泥画像及以死尸。如是人边作非梵行。得邪淫罪。若属自身而作他想。属他之人而作自想。亦名邪淫。如是邪淫亦有轻重。从重烦恼则得重罪。从轻烦恼则得轻罪。

It quite clear in Bhante’s explanation. The 5 precept are concerned with your MOTIVATION or INTENTIONS, not which gender one is in love with or one sleeps with.

Is it right to say that sex between men is not allowed in Buddhism because it breaks one of the fundamental 5 rules?

What a sad story, but how often this must happen, and in other religions also (at least with Buddhist hells there’s a time limit on getting roasted or whatever..imagine being a Christian and believing you will never get out again!) The old fear tactic of ‘threaten em with hell-fire’…forgetting that the hellish mind is one based on anger and hate, and has nothing to do with one’s sexual orientation! (Just to clarify, I am not gay, but I feel the wrongness of what was done to this poor boy, who was vulnerable, by someone who should have just THOUGHT a bit about the possible consequences of their glib platitudes before blurting them out!).

I know there are reasonable, kind and compassionate monks around (such as ven. Dhammika and a few others I have met over the years), but overall, my personal experience with the religious Buddhist community has sort of driven me to practice the Dhamma alone, with just the Internet for guidance. And platitudes such as the one spoken (so thoughtlessly) by that monk to Julian remind me so much of Christian moralists, that I wonder if it is really Buddhism at all.

May all aspiring Buddhists find the TRUE Dhamma…(and this takes continual effort, it’s not a cut-and-dried affair!).

I think this is a great story by Ven Dhammika. Let us learn to accept one another for our differences. The principle of Loving Kindness and Intention is Kamma is what we should remember as good people.
